Digital Card Battle (PSX) FAQ
Digital Card Battle
Basic Rules & Hints by MZ Networks
Fusion Guide by Lopmon/Terriermon
Digimon Card Game is a very popular game in our world. Thus, it has been imported (following the Japanese version of the real game) onto PSone format, and translated in English for anyone to enjoy. These are some things you should note:
Keely and Yolei are the same person...
R-Gatomon is the Gatomon (Ring Gatomon) of Season 1
Gatomon is the Rookie Gatomon (No-Ring Gatomon) of Season 2
If I refer to a Digimon as (name)P (eg. VeemonP), that means that it's the partner Veemon that you got.
RULES & HINTS:
Every card has 3 attacks and 1 special:
“O”: Best attack!! However, most “X” attacks block the “O” attack, and some cards work against them.
“T”: Medium. Probably one would be wise to use this attack. However, note that the opponent might work against your “T” attack by using an option card.
“X”: The worst, but safest attack. Although it deals minor damage, or, in most cases, 0 damage, it has a status effect that hurts the opponents' strategy for the current round, like “O” is 0 or “FirstAttack”.
“Special”: This attack is triggered by combining the card in use with the current Digimon. Most special attacks include + 300 for attack or some might include “X” is + 100, but “T” & “O” will be 0
Therefore, the safest attack might be “X”, combined with a “Special” that enforces “X”. However, one might use an option card to increase the damage done with “O” and “T”, so, if the opponent decides to nullify them, you will automatically increase them. To slow your opponents' “O” & “T”, use a Digimon which puts “O” in 0, and an item that gives a “T” is 0 to your opponent.
The cards you use as “specials” may also be the DECK cards. Using a DECK (upside down) card is called Gamble All or Nothing. You don't know what's going to be triggered by it, so it's a gamble for good or bad. However, if when designing your deck, you include cards which don't give bad results, and apply this to your strategy, you should have no problem.
When you get a Digi-Egg, your partner can digivolve. Note that a Digi-Egg is actually a card that isn't included within the 30 card limit. That means that if VeemonP got his Digi-Egg of Courage, you automatically got the FlamedramonP card. When playing VeemonP, you will be asked if you want to digivolve him, and if yes, he will turn into FlamedramonP. Note that Armor Digimon cannot digivolve to a Champion/Ultimate unless an Option Card is used.
Your partner is the only Digimon card that you can assign DigiParts to. DigiParts are special items that change your partner's capacity and ability - every partner can have 3 DigiParts. For example, you can automatically make your Digimon's health go up, or his “O”, “T” & “X” (+ status) attacks change. You can also change your partner's “Special” attacks. Be sure to equip the correct DigiParts on your partner - you'll need them in battle!
Make sure you enter Battle Café after winning at the Battle Arena! People like Tai & Cody will give you Digi-Eggs to digivolve your Digimon with! Also, after obtaining 2 or more Digi-Eggs for one particular Digimon (eg. Courage & Friendship for Veemon), go in the Partner menu to check out which Armor Digimon to change into.
Armor Digivolving might not be necessary. If you play VeemonP, you are asked if you want to Armor Digivolve. Think about your cards. If you have enough DP/a Digivolve Option Card and the Champion/Ultimate Digimon you want to turn into, don't Armor Digivolve. Use Armor Digivolving by playing your partner at a critical time, or just to enforce your Digimon Partner.
Digital Card Battle is a very simple game, hidden under mounds of complicated rules. Don't learn the rules by heart - battle as you want to - practice makes perfect. Also, don't despair because you lose a battle - you can't win all the time - and you can develop new strategies by losing.
CHOOSE YOUR PARTNER:
In the game, you can have a total of 3 partners. You get these in several checkpoints in the game -
1) Start a New Game:
Choose between VeemonP, HawkmonP & ArmadillomonP.
VEEMONP: Fire & Darkness
Choose VeemonP to have a great offense, and because only he has 3 Digi-Eggs. His deck is quite good, and does not need to be modified further into the game.
Choosing HawkmonP means that you can digivolve from Rookie to Champion to Ultimate quicker than in the other decks, as his deck is of only 1 type.
ARMADILLOMONP: Rare & Ice
When you choose ArmadillomonP, you are opting for a deck with great defense skills. Digivolution and Offense come second in priority - you should have no problems at the beginning with this deck.
Digi-Egg #1: Courage/Love/Knowledge
FLAME CITY: Talk to Davis after beating the Battle Arena once.
Digi-Egg #2: Friendship/Sincerity/Reliability
DARK CITY: Talk to Wormmon after beating the Battle Arena once.
Digi-Egg #3: Miracles - (VeemonP only)
BEGINNER CITY: Talk to BlackWarGreymon after getting 300 wins.
2) Talk to Cody in Igloo City after beating the Arena once:
Choose between PatamonP & GatomonP
PATAMONP or GATOMONP?
Choose whichever Digimon you like - they're both of the Nature type, and they're both rookies, and approximately the same in status. So, this time, it's a question of preferences.
Digi-Egg #1: Hope
PYRAMID CITY: Talk to T.K. after beating the Battle Arena once.
Digi-Egg #2: Courage
Digi-Egg #1: Light
SKY CITY: Talk to Kari after beating the Battle Arena once.
Digi-Egg #2: Reliability
3) Talk to Ken in Steep Road:
Choose between WormmonP & the remaining partners:
Choose WormmonP if you chose VeemonP in the beginning, or to add him to a DARK deck. This is the best partner from all 5.
Choose one of the other partners as you wish (see above for details). However, the Digi-Eggs are in a different place:
WISEMAN TOWER: Talk to MetalGreymon after beating the Battle Arena once.
BEATING "A" (ANALOGMAN) EASILY:
Your first battle with "A" in Infinity Tower should seem very difficult, but it really is very easy. First, you need to have a HACKING card. Put this in your deck, and start the game. Keep on discarding all cards until you find the HACKING card. Put a digimon in play, and equip the HACKING card as a support. Then, you should switch your Digimon's HP with your opponent's.
Now that you have 2,000+ HP, the battle should be won easily. Also, to defeat Apocarimon, keep on using a O Counter attack, so that you can counter his 990 damage attack. The battle will get on quite normally after that.
After beating "A" at Infinity Tower, you can fight the DigiDestined. If you go to Sky City, talk to Wizardmon. He will ask you to give him some spells, so that he will generate cards for you. Some of the known spells are:

If you want to get H-Kabuterimon, then look for Green texts.
If you want WarGreymon look for Red texts. Then you'll see like:
You need Omnimon or Imperialdramon DNA with Vikemon/OmnimonII/MetalSeadramon/MetalGarurumon/
WaruSeadramon/Brachiomon/ or Zudomon to get H-Kabuterimon.
Any Digimon you want to get from fusion, look for their type. (Fire, Ice, Nature, Rare, and Darkness)
Fire + Darkness= Rare
+Machinedramon/VenomMyotismon = Gigadramon
Ice+Rare = Nature
Nature + Darkness = Ice
Nature+Rare = Darkness
I haven't finished Rare+Fire/Fire+Rare.
